Subject: Craft show report

Survived my show this past weekend. Great crowd, but they were buying small stuff. I made over a $1,000 last year at this show and only $600 this week. HOWEVER, considering the most expensive item I sold was $12, some painted ornaments and a few painted teacher gifts, the rest adds up to to LOT of gag gifts and stocking stuffers. I have a 4x6 peg board full and my booth is on a corner at the door. They stop at my booth first and just ooh and ahh at the gag gifts. They don't mind spending a $1 or two. Most bought a minimum of $10. The man in the booth next to me sold "redneck wine glass" for $10 each. It consisted of a glass candle holder (fron DT) with a mason jar glued to the top. He threw in the lid to make it a "to go" glass. He sold 25 on Saturday, 55 on Sunday and took orders for me. He included a certificate of authenticity (all misspelled). I got tired of hearing his selling spiel. I may make some for next year to sell if he's not there.

seems that the gag gifts are popular and a cheap gift for people on low budget the red neck wine glass is a cute idea Did he have a poem to go with them? if not you can ~ONE JUMP UP ON HIM ~

[> Re: Craft show report -- Mary, 01:59:40 11/25/10 Thu [1]

He had a "Certificate of Authenticity" with misspelled words. Maybe someone can come up with something cuttier for me.

[> Re: Craft show report -- GeorgiaGirl, 18:54:42 11/25/10 Thu [1]

Hi Mary!
These sound soooo cute. I am curious....what size jar did
he use? Also, can you remember anything about the wording of the Certificate of Authenticity? Do you think the mispelled words were intentional?

Sorry for so many questions, but inquiring minds would love to know.....
Hugs,
Claudia

The Redneck Wine Glass is a pint size mason jar attached to a glass stem and measures just over 9" tall.

Thank you, Mary, for the information. These are neat. I live in an area that suggests "red-neck" styles of living and these would be great for our tourist shoppers.

I am not that big on "red-neck gag gifts" but this one is
special.

Does anyone have a poem to go with the redneck wine glass or can someone make one? These are cute!

[> Re: Craft show report -- Mary, 00:47:02 11/29/10 Mon [1]

I thought it was a really cute idea. Place the "wineglass" in a plain brown bag and tie with jute, string or ribbon.

Here is something that may help our poets come up with a cute tag to put on the Red Neck Wine Glass........

The Wine Glass comes with it's very own lid for saving, shaking and no spilling!

Pour in your favorite wine, beer or, yes, even iced tea and it's time to get the party started! Drink up!!!

Hand wash only

You don't have to be redneck to appreciate the uniqueness of this great wine glass,

[> Re: Poem Request Red Neck Wine Glass -- skippy, 19:42:27 11/27/10 Sat [1]

I had thought about making them in sets and crudely etching Bride and Groom on them, but can't figure how to spell in "Redneck".
Any ideas?

[> Re: Poem Request Red Neck Wine Glass -- ginnyp, 23:20:39 11/27/10 Sat [1]

bride and groom or couple would be his'n and her'n

[> Re: Poem Request Red Neck Wine Glass -- PattyWV, 23:32:37 11/27/10 Sat [1]

Maybe use it as a vase when out of booze.

thank you ginnyp and JS for the spelling ideas.

[> Re: Poem Request Red Neck Wine Glass -- Mary, 00:40:07 11/29/10 Mon [1]

The one I saw came with a "Certificate of Authenticity" with all the words misspelled and talked about "this here redneck wineglass......" He sold them for $10, sold at least 80 and took orders for more when he ran out. I would love to sell these next year.

[> Re: Poem Request Red Neck Wine Glass -- PattyWV (), 05:34:22 11/29/10 Mon [1]

Thank's Mary.
I did a search with no luck.
I did come across where someone added colored yarn to tie on as a glass marker.
I have a pink camo tag and a regular camo tag
ready to go.

[> Re: Poem Request Red Neck Wine Glass -- PattyWV, 19:06:53 11/29/10 Mon [1]

Still hoping for a poem.

I keep thinking about the don't drink and drive saying.
Don't drink and drive - you might hit a pothole and spill your drink.
Not going to happen with a lid.

The 'Hillbilly Glass/Redneck Wineglass is so cute...Do you know which glue a person would use to glue the jar to the base? Would it be E6000? Thanks for your assistance...and happy crafting.

[> Re: Hillbilly glass -- Shirttails, 14:36:06 12/02/10 Thu [1]

My lucky day! I was in a flea market store and they had the candle holders that said they were 2 % crystal..haha..but they were only 50 cents each. I bought 14 and there were lots more. Wish I knew if they'd sell out or not. Now I'm on a treasure hunt for the jars. This will be a round to it project for spring...

[> Re: Hillbilly glass -- PattyWV, 14:50:24 12/02/10 Thu [1]

They are really simple to make.
I put together a dozen in no time.
Use E6000 glue to glue the candlestick to the bottom of the pint canning jar.
I'll post a pic later.
I added some embelishment to mine.

ALSO, what glue would be best to use to connect the two pieces of glass?
Thanks

This is what I've come up with so far.............

I found some small rounded jelly jars with grapes on the sides that I used for the top. They also have the lid and screw top with a "fruit" motif. For the wine glass "charm" I was thinking of using a bread tie with a button.

Can someone help tweek this?? It's early in the morning and my creative juices aren't flowing yet - but I had a start.........

The guys I used the little tree branch circles from Walmart in the same area as the marbles.I used the regular camo tag.

I added a Hillbilly Wine recipe on a bare foot ; )

These are adorable! I wish mine looked as good. I also have a show tomorrow, I hope we're not at the same place. Mine have a little tag with a silly hillbilly dog with a pipe in his mouth and I tied twine around the neck with little beads on the end of the twine. I'm charging $5 each and have 10 to sell. I'll let you all know how mine sell in eastern Kansas.

Thanks for posting these pictures - gives me time to develop the idea for next year's shows.

I've seen some of the small ones with margarita on the tag but I can't remember what the word before margarita was. You know, like Hillbilly Highball etc.
I also saw a marker made out of a bottle cap with a picture inside the cap and a small chain to hang it on your glass.
I'm going to make some for our November show.
Grandma Bonnie is really having a run on hers. She's doin super!

Addy,
I haven't made any to sell only because I don't have the time or place to sell them. I know I could have made them cheaper, but sometimes if I see something I really like but know I don't or won't have time to do it, I just buy it.

I recently bought 2 at a local craft show for my nephew for Christmas. They were $7.00 each or 2 for $12.00. The lady at was making them right at her booth as she was having a hard time keeping up with the demand. They were selling fast.

Good Luck, Kay(PA)

Honey I sell the plain ones for $7.00 I can not imagine putting them together in a booth - it takes three days for them to cure with the glass glue I use!!! Just nw aiting for n OK on 150 ordered with Maddog Saloon etched on them. I don't care one way or another if I get the order as I can't get anymore caning jars around here... ...and the ones I have need to last 'till the Christmas shows are over... Just got the OK from the customer...

Sure would like to know the magic glue this person is using as I, too, must wait for mine to dry .

[> Re: Questions about the redneck wine glasses -- PattyWV, 16:08:50 09/20/11 Tue [1]

I sell mine as a fundraiser for a local organization.
I charge &10.00. I added a laminated tag with the logo attached on a ribbon that can be used as a bookmark.
I also add embellishments.
Half of every sale goes to the organization.I've been able to donate quite a lot to the organization this way.
Over $500.00.
I make some profit enough to buy more supplies, but feel great about helping the organization.
I saw some at a car show in Cumberland Maryland. They were selling at &10.00,but not selling any that I saw.
They had no embellishments, but did have a paper tag with a confererate flag that had Hillbilly Wine Glass across it.
I agree about the glue,it takes awhile to dry.No way could I do them on site.

[> Re: Questions about the redneck wine glasses -- Grandma Bonnie, 19:51:08 09/20/11 Tue [1]

I have heard that there is a two part epoxy glue that will cure quickly - I'll check into it and report anything I find out. Right now, I have 18 dozen already glued and cured for the three days. I have to be ready for anything ...I am etching 5 dozen glasses this week to bring my stock up to par. I wish I could etch at the shows but there is now way I can do it... I put my Wine glass tag (about 4"x4") inside the wine glass.

Comments on Glue Holding Glass Long Term

Subject: Redneck wine glass glue questions? please answer

I've been reading on another site about the redneck wine glasses and there were several comments on having trouble with the glasses falling apart when washed. Those commenting said they had used epoxy glass glue, super glue, gorilla glue and E6000 and that the wine glasses had all fallen apart when washed. Has anyone had any trouble with this?

Replies:
[> Re: Redneck wine glass glue questions? please answer -- Nancy K, 15:17:36 10/04/11 Tue [1]

I haven't made the redneck wine glasses but did make a mantel jar with a glass cylinder glued to a candle stick. Like those from Dollar Tree. I used E 6000 and it held together. I hand washed it and have had no problems. I'm sure the glue would let loose if you put in the dishwasher but hand washing it should hold up.

[> Re: Redneck wine glass glue questions? please answer -- Annie~B, 16:02:28 10/04/11 Tue [1]

I glued the glass cylinder to the candlestick last year, using the Gorilla glue. It held up very nicely. This year, I got it out to rinse for the fall, and the cylinder popped right off the candlestick, and the glue popped off in a big ring. I didn't even get a chance to wash it! Sorry...can't help with what will work!

Subject: ISO - Redneck wine glass tag printable

Hi ladies,
Hope you all are doing well. I'm in a crunch! I've invested a lot of money in craft show booth fees and have nothing to sell. My hard drive died on my computer, my laptop quit, my craft show van is in the shop, and a host of other things have happened all at once.
I'm looking for quick/easy ideas that will sell and came across the wine glasses the last time I was here and am thinking I could make a few real quick. Did anyone ever make a tag I that I could use? Or is anyone willing to make one? Do you know of a printable site one of our ladies has that has one for sale? I like the redneck better than hillbilly, but might could use that.
Thank you in advance for any help at all!

Grandma Bonnie if your still checking this site out I have a question or two for you. I see in your picture of your display, which by the way is great, that there are two different full size sheet of paper with something written on them. Are they the story of the redneck wine glass?
Question 2: Have you had any problems with using E6000 glue?
On another site someone said they had theirs fall apart when they washed them. Don't know if they used hot water or dishwasher though. I'm planning on making some this weekend and want your advice since you are the Redneck Wine Glass Lady. Thanks for your help. Luv your tags. I'm using them.

I do not recommend washing in the dish washer - the tag read hand washing nd I've had no problems with them coming apart

Subject: Red Solo Cup tag

On an earlier post someone had asked for a tag for the Red Solo cup tailgating or wine glass. Grandma Bonnie had made one that had a verse from the song "Red Solo Cup". Grandma Bonnie must be busy with her shows. I don't think she has seen that post. The tag read:

This solo cup is
the best receptacle
for barbeques, tailgating,
fairs and festivals...
Let's have a party!

Subject: OT: Crafters making Red Neck Wineglasses

I was in a little speciality store in our area today, and everyone was making a fuss over one of the display tables. So, when I had an opportunity to squeeze in and look...guess what I found? A version of the redneck wine glasses you ladies are making, only with a large 16 oz. Solo red plastic party cup. The tag was 'Tailgating Wineglass.'

I came home and did a search on the net and found these:

Glue Discussion for Adding Red Solo Cup to Candleholder

Subject: Question about red solo wine glass

I have a question for you. I would like to make this as a gag gift for a friends birthday. Do you use a candle holder for the base(glass or plastic) and do you think I could use a glue gun to glue the cup to the base? Questions may sound silly but You ladies have always been real good about answering. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Kat - It is a canlestick holde from the Dollar Tree Store - if they are for sale, I would use the E6000 to glue them together - if not, hot glue would work for the gag gift... HTH

Re: Question about red solo wine glass -- penny, 23:32:21 03/16/12 Fri [1]

I think the hot glue would melt the cup.

Re: Question about red solo wine glass -- donna in nc, 05:16:44 03/17/12 Sat [1]

if they use them for a cold beverage the hot glue will not work the plastic cup would pop off use e 6000 that will hold it good

Re: Question about red solo wine glass -- KrafteeKaren, 11:00:09 03/17/12 Sat [1]

I found a glue at Walmart called Crafter's Glue and I've only had 1 of my glasses pop off...and it was because it wasn't centered on the quart jar.
Grandma Bonnie....I've never been able to find them at the Dollar Tree, only at Dollar General and I was told that they won't get anymore of them. Maybe Dollar Tree got them in since I've been there last so will have to check them out. I want to make about 50 of them for the craft season this year.

Marsha...we used Crafter's Glue instead of E6000 on the glass ones, not sure if they will work on the plastic cups. Crafter's Glue you get a Walmart in the glue section...it has very little smell and it works very good. I only had 1 pop off of the glass ones and that was because I didn't get the candle stick center.

Here are some gluing suggestions for you. I haven't tried any of them, but they do provide some good info, and in the past this site has proved very helpful to me.

Gluing Red Solo Cups

Well, I've tried twice and the same result. I have used E6000 and Bond 527 and both times the bottoms fell out of the cup. I did have it turned upside down. Was that my problem. Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks
Addy

I sand the bottoms of glass ( I use plastic ones from Kmart)then I sand the tops of the candlestick the glue I use is quik grab it works wonders on alot of things give that a try

[> Re: Having trouble with red solo cups, Please help! -- KrafteeKaren, 11:48:45 04/23/12 Mon [1]

Addy...Walmart sells a glue called Crafter's Glue or Crafter's Bond and I have never found it not to stick to stuff. Might try that.

Where can I go to see one of these? They sound interesting.

I use E6000 and haven't had a problem... You might be using too much glue. I use a small bead of glue on both the top of the candlestick holder andthe bottom of the solo cup (just like the reqular redneck wine glass) - BTW - it isn't an actual solo cup - the solo brand I have found is square at the bottom and has a rough texture on the sides - don't like the looks... lol

Idea: Cheesehead Wine Glasses

Subject: "New" redneck wine glasses

We got an advertisement and coupons for a local variety store. They are now selling "Cheesehead wineglasses".
That is what Green Bay Packer fans are called. Or any of us from Wisconsin.
Anyone else seen these?

No, I have not seen them but DS is a 'Packer-Backer'. I am sure he would love one. (((hugs)))

[> Re: "New" redneck wine glasses -- Addy, 18:23:11 10/02/12 Tue [1]

Do you have a pic of it or a site where I can go to see it?

[> Re: "New" redneck wine glasses -- Laurene, 14:57:56 10/03/12 Wed [1]

Addy, the picture I have of it is too small to see what the tag says. The tag is green with a a cheesehead on it.
The lid is painted green. I thought the store may have a website but don't see one. Sorry.
If I get to the store I will try and copy the tag.

I checked out the "cheesehead" red nick wine glasses. They just were the regular glasses. Nothing different. maybe the cheesehead ones were all sold out.
