I like Boxy Stars, one of the free patterns. I think I will make a wall quilt or table mat with a single block.

This block makes a nice scrap quilt, but you still have to select fabrics to make the star stand out. In the picture, the star stands out in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th blocks of the left column. The star is lost in some of the others.
